Principal's Message

Hello Everyone,

May is Gaelic Awareness Month. Ms. Maclean and Mrs. Dunn MacIsaac are currently working in collaboration to prepare a St. Andrew’s Ceilidh on Friday, May 25th in conjunction with Gaelic Awareness Month. The event begins at 1:30 pm and all parents are welcome to attend.

The month of May also brings us Provincial Math Assessments for students in Grades 3 (May 29th and 30th) and Grade 6 (May 23rd and 24th). We wish all of students best of luck on these assessments. With the end of the school year approaching quickly, preparations for the 2012-2013 school year have begun. As you are probably aware of already, St. Andrews Consolidated School has been identified as the receiving school for students currently attending Rev. HJ MacDonald School. Mr. Bance and I are presently working together at developing a transition plan. The plan looks at a number of items. The plan is currently in draft, but will be made public on May 30th. It focusses on assuring that there is a organized, collaborative, fair and smooth transition for all students and families involved. Until May 30th, I encourage parents to contact the school at any time if they have questions and/or to set up a time for a school tour.

With summer weather upon us, we remind parents that mornings can still be fairly chilly. Students should bring at least, a jacket to school so that they are comfortable being outdoors during scheduled recess breaks. Also, parents are encouraged to pack a change of clothes for younger students in case of accidental slips and falls.

We expect our Mother’s Day Cookbook to arrive this week. They will be distributed to those who have made purchases. Also, if you know of anyone interested in purchasing one, extra copies have been printed. Please contact the school for details.

School Advisory Council and Home &School Association

Our next School Advisory Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 8th at 6:30. At this time, our transition plan with Rev HJ MacDonald School will be shared with the SAC.  School Administrators are looking for feedback from both SAC’s prior to finalizing the document.

Thank you to the Home & School Association for a $3000.00 contribution in support of our classroom libraries initiative.  Teachers and students will begin developing classroom book orders in a few weeks. Thank again for your continued support. The Home & School will have their final ticket sale coming up mid-May.  The people who purchase tickets get a chance to win one of the three following prizes:

  1. Fit Family Pack (estimated cost of $500.00) is made up of prizes from Decoste Interiors, Walmart, Superstore, Sobeys and Canadian Tire.
  2. 32’ Samsung Television (estimated cost of $350.00) donated by Mr. Robert Snyder at our local Sears Store.

     3.     Day SPA Treatment(estimated cost of  $200.00) donated by Joanie MacDonald

Tickets will be sent home with students in the next few weeks. We thank you for supporting our St. Andrews Consolidated Home & School Association.

Sincerely,

Suzanne Delaney, Principal
